Getting Backlinks From Blog Commenting
Small Biz Domination – Part 23
Getting backlinks from blog commenting is one of the most powerful and easy ways that I know to build page-rank and traffic to a website. This is no secret and lots of people are out there right now getting backlinks from blog commenting. Most of them are going the wrong way about it in a quest to find a shortcut.
Getting Backlinks From Blog Commenting, The right Way
All over the web there are people trying all kinds of ways to build links, improve SEO and build page-rank. The majority of them think that it’s all about numbers. Need more links, need more links. They cannot see the wood for the trees.
One good quality link is worth hundreds of poor links so it’s not about numbers at all. What’s more, good links from a good blog will bring you much more than just a link. They will bring you traffic, readers and valuable relationships with other bloggers.
Getting backlinks from blog commenting is among best ways to build long term, sustainable traffic as well as valuable links. That’s why I have a preference for a business blog over a website, well most of the time.
Once again though I’m going to point you towards some information that I have already written on the subject. I wrote a short tutorial on this because blog commenting deserves careful attention. Also, good bloggers deserve your respect. Treat them well and it will pay dividends. Below are links to my short getting backlinks from blog commenting tutorial.
Part 1 Blogging For Good Quality Backlinks
An in depth version of what I have just written above. Explains where most go wrong and why, what seems like the hard way, is actually the easy and most productive way.
Part 2 Successful Blogging For Backlinks
Part 2 looks at where you should comment, why you should comment and how these to will mean less work and more pagerank.
Part 3 How To Post Comments
Yes I’m afraid so. A whole page on how to post comments. Well it’s better to be thorough and get it right. Besides it’s not all about how, there are some tips and pointers too.
Part 4 A Blog Commenting Example.
Rounding off with a blog commenting example to help cement the whole tutorial together. See if you can spot the typo in the image!
Getting backlinks from blog commenting has huge benefits. Best of all, it’s easy, great fun and helps to build valuable ties and friendships. Don’t skip through this one because you will be really missing out if you do.

Thanks for the great post. To often I read posts that mention you should post comments for @backlinks and not give any examples. I think your example will really help some people add more useful comments to the blogs they follow.

Steve,
I really like how you are building up your blog with these series of posts. Makes it much easier for readers to go back and read related content. And when new clients say how do I do X, you can send them the post. Valuable!

Hello Leora.
Glad you like the tutorial.
It came about as a result of me stepping back and trying to look at my blog from the point of view of my target audience, (small businesses).
I realised that it was all very well offering all this information but how would my users know where to start and what to read in what order.
As a result, I decided to creat a couple of pages and just put links in to my articles in a way that gave the whole thing some structure. I hope this will give users more of a start here and read through these approach.
Always lovely to see you over here and I see that you are still my top commenter. Thank’s for your continued support. I will be back to your place soon.
For the benefit of other users, Leora’s blog is another great resource for business bloggers.

Hi Steve
It amazes me that people tying to build a business always feel the need to take shortcuts. I have been blogging for two years now and can spot a ‘shortcutter’ a mile off.
With Askimet and my own editing, my old blog had over 150,000 spam or comments I trashed. In fact I can say that not one comment that was not a genuine attempt to discuss a post got through.
In my current niche I am visiting blogs and commenting, many never answer the comment and almost all never return the visit. I honestly think most of them don’t know the etiquette of blogging, the rest are just too ignorant to care.
I must make time to go through all your old posts on SEO, backlinking and wordpress, I am sure there is a lot of great information that will help me.

Well Bill, you seem to be becoming quite a regular here. I will have to try to get back to yours soon but I must be honest, I’m up to my ears at the moment.
I don’t get as much spam as I expected, I have a plugin that I wrote that sits in the comment form and makes my comment guidelines available in a small drop-down box. (It’s available for free download in the top right of any page).
I don’t know if it is the plugin or if I’m just lucky but I’m actually getting more genuine comments than spam (AT THE MOMENT!).
I don’t know if I mentioned it before but at the top of the page there is a link called “Local Biz Domination”. There you can find a list of links out to posts. The idea was to add some structure rather than trying to guess your way around my blog.
There are also many new posts and videos still to come.
Great to see you here again Bill, I will get over to you as soon as I get on top of things again.

These are good steps to using blog comments as a way to get backlinks. There’s one thing that I always keep in mind when I’m doing this, though. I would always think of the interaction first, and treat the backlink that I create as some sort of a bonus. The interaction part can really help expand your network, thus giving you a larger source of information.
Hi Gerald.
Nice to see you back here.
You are dead right. Building those relationships with other bloggers is far more important than the link.
I don’t know if you had time to visit the links on this page that lead out to the blog commenting tutorial (sounds like you are well clued up anyway) but I make a strong point of saying just that.
The link is just a bonus. The frienships and ties bring much more value. It’s a shame that so many are so short sighted and don’t realiase that.
My comment policy plugin has cut down the spam I get but I still my fair share. Why can’t these people see that trying to save time is actually wasting time. Their comments just get trashed.
Thank’s for sharing your thoughts with us Gerald and adding a little extra value with your comment.

Do-follow links pass “juice” and increase PR no-follow links do not. Bot are essential when link building to promote link diversity and a “natural” link profile. It is true to say that most blogs are no-follow but you just need to look a little harder to find the good do-follow ones
Good advice and not to mention the fact that blog comments bring traffic and new visitors even if the links are no-follow.
I did just make a slight change to your comment to bring it in line with my comment policy as it’s your first time here. If you could just make sure you use your name to ensure that future comments are approved.
Blog commenting is really a good link building strategy that can really help you generate traffic and get backlinks to help you increase your site ranking.

I agree Oscar. If you own or run a blog, it’s always good to engage with the people that comment on your own blog too. Getting to know other bloggers also builds traffic and momentum. Yhere’s a hidden benefit too. You make friends and then the link building is a lot more fun.
I think a great way of getting to comment on new blogs is by using the Google Blog search tool as it’s real time and if you get your comment on top of the pile then you stand a great chance of getting traffic through to your nominated web page.
Hi Nicholas.
Yeah, Google Blog search, do-follow diver and quite a few more out there too.
Brilliant article! Blog commenting is really a powerful seo tool. And I absolutely agree with James. Certainly no-follow links play a great role in building backlinks but it’s always better to find one quality resource where you will be able to leave a dofollow link.
Yep, do-follow, no-follow and anything else that brings traffic or value.
I like backlinks from a variety of different types. Blog commenting is a popular method. I kind of mix it up. I always hear you should have a good combination of dofollow and nofollow links. Or, you shouldn’t focus solely on dofollow.
Ray@Webmaster Resources recently posted..How to Enable Windows 7 Godmode
Yes Ray, definately mix it up. I still use all the old methods along with the new. I know the links from directories etc, don’t carry the same value that they used to but they still give link diversity. Do-follow, no-follow, citations, they all have some value if not link juice.
Blog commenting can be a little more time consuming and for that reason, I try to use that time wisely and gain at least some good do-follow links.
How Does a Blog Commenting Service Work?
Hi Tommy.
It usually involves paying someone to post comments for you. If you take this route, make sure that the company providing the service posts comments manually and not with automated software. Many companies will charge for comments posted, NOT COMMENTS APPROVED, so always chech to see what you are getting for your money. Also be careful not to bring too many links in one go. This can do serious harm.
