Recommended Pages For A Business Website

Small Biz Domination – Part 19

There are no hard and fast rules regarding what pages you should have on your website. Actually, that’s not entirely true because you must have a home page and in some cases a privacy policy page. Below is a list of pages that I recommend that you do have.

  • Home: Well it’s fair to say that it is obvious that you must have a home page (index page). i don’t think that this really needs any explanation.
  • Contact: Unless you are a lottery scammer from some remote lawless country, it’s probably a good idea to provide your visitors with a means of contacting you. If you are in business, you don’t need me to spell out why a contact page is essential so let’s keep this one short and sweet too.
  • Products/Services: Not necessarily one page, it could be several. Again, if you are in business this one doesn’t need a lot of explaining. If you want to sell or promote products and services online, you need to provide your potential clients with the information that they are likely to require about them.
  • Testimonials: Always a good page to have. Don’t be afraid to ask past, existing and new clients for a testimonial to put on your website. These endorsements are a great way to instill confidence in people who do not know who you are.
  • Privacy Policy: In some cases and in some countries a privacy policy page is a legal requirement. Because laws vary from country to country, this can be a tricky decision to make. I’m going to make this decision easier for you. Have a privacy policy page. If in doubt, cover your backside. It also looks professional. I’m guessing that you probably won’t know where to begin so fortunately like many things there is a plug-in for this one.

Go through the process that I showed you in a previous post to search for and add a plug-in. This time instead of searching for the “All In One SEO Pack”, type “Easy Privacy Policy” in the plug-in’s search field.

the process of setting it up is simple and you can access the plug-in through the “Settings” tab in your WordPress dashboard. I do have one little tip though.

Page Attributes Dialog Box ImageOnce your privacy page has been created, go through the process to edit your page. In the page attributes box (as seen on the right), you have an option to set the page menu order.

If you set the number quite high, the privacy policy page menu item will be displayed to the far right of your menu.

I always think that it is a good idea to have your important pages (in terms of doing business) closer to the left of the menu, for fairly obvious reasons.

So there you go, just a few hints and tips about pages for a business website. I guess there is only one more thing to add.

Congratulations, you have just made it to the end of section two. You are now well on your way to creating and running a successful small business website.

In the next section we will be looking at on page SEO in a bit more detail as well as the all important off page SEO. You will continue to discover new tips and tricks with WordPress as we go along. Well done for getting this far.

    Those are the key pages.

One thing I’ve learned publishing business websites is to place the contact form on every page. Testimonials are good on every page. I usually place both in the sidebar. These two elements make it easy for visitors to quickly contact the business.
