SEO, or search engine optimisation, is the process of carrying out tasks to ensure that your web-page comes high in the search results.

It’s no good just coming high up for any keywords, (search terms). The search terms that your website scores for, must be the sort of terms that are likely to bring you business.

I have seen many companies that offer to take the risk for you. They get you to the front page and then you pay a monthly fee. For that monthly fee, they will keep you on the front page. Is that you? Well if it is, you may be interested in what I have to say next.

This is a true story about a project that I carried out for a local business.

A client asked me to give him a quote to get his website on the front page of Google for two local search terms.

To be fair it was a very easy term to rank for but this demonstrates perfectly how many businesses are paying unfair prices for SEO.

It took me 48 hours to get the site in question to number six for one of the terms. In less than two months the website was number one for both terms. Over a year later the website is still number one and I have not done a thing.

I carried out less than 5 hours work to achieve this. It cost my client less than £150.

I could have easily charged him £50 per month. If I had done so, it would have cost him £850 to date. That cost would continue to go up by £50 per month and I would be laughing all the way to the bank.
